Alamodome to Kingdome - Madison Square Garden to the Spectrum

MADISON SQAURE GARDEN III

-NBA Team: New York Knicks
-Opened: 1925
-Years at Arena:
1946-1968
-Capacity: 19,599
-Current Use: Demolished after 1976 and is the site of the Worldwide Plaza.
-Interesting Facts: Most unique feature was its ornate marquee located above the main entrance. Hosted the 1954 and 1955 NBA All Star Games.

 

McNICHOLS SPORTS ARENA

-NBA Team: Denver Nuggets
-Opened: 1975
-Years at Arena:
1975-1999
-Capacity: 17,171
-Current Use: Parking lot for Invesco Field at Migh High (NFL).
-Interesting Facts: The Colorado Avalanche (NHL) won the City of Denver's first major sports championship in 1996. Home to six sports franchises.

MEMORIAL COLISEUM

-NBA Team: Portland Trailblazers
-Opened: 1960
-Years at Arena:
1970-1995
-Capacity: 12,888
-Current Use: Current home of the Portland Winter Hawks hockey team.
-Interesting Facts: The Portland Trailblazers played in three NBA Championships at Memorial Coliseum in 1977, 1990 and 1992. It is part of the Rose Quarter.

MILWAUKEE ARENA

-NBA Team: Milwaukee Bucks
-Opened: 1995
-Years at Arena:
1968-88
-Capacity: 10,783
-Current Use: Currently known as US Cellular Arena, it is home of the Milwaukee Wave (MISL).
-Interesting Facts: Large rainbow M's were located on the basketball court in the 1970s.

OMNI COLISEUM

-NBA Team: Atlanta Hawks
-Opened: 1972
-Years at Arena:
1972-1997
-Capacity: 16,378
-Current Use: The Omni was demolished in 1997 and the Hawks new home, Philips Arena was built at the same location.
-Interesting Facts: It had one of the most distinctive roofs as it looked liked an egg crate. The building began to rust bad in the 1990s.

 PYRAMID ARENA

-NBA Team: Memphis Grizzlies
-Opened: 1991
-Years at Arena:
2001-2004
-Capacity: 21,000
-Current Use: No primary tenant, may be turned into an aquarium, casino or theme park.
-Interesting Facts: It is the third largest pyramid in the world and was the home of the Grizzlies after moving from Vancouver.

REUNION ARENA

-NBA Team: Dallas Mavericks
-Opened: 1980
-Years at Arena:
1980-2001
-Capacity: 17,293
-Current Use: Located in downtown Dallas, it is currently used for a variety of events including, including many high school activities.
-Interesting Facts: It was used as a shelter for evacuees from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

RUTGERS ATHLETIC CENTER

-NBA Team: New Jersey Nets
-Opened: 1977
-Years at Arena:
1977-1981
-Capacity: 8,000
-Current Use: Currently the home of the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights men's and women's basketball teams.
-Interesting Facts: Now known as the Louis Brown Athletic Center, it is one of the hardest arenas for opposing teams to play at.

SACRAMENTO SPORTS ARENA

-NBA Team: Sacramento Kings
-Opened: 1985
-Years at Arena:
1985-1988
-Capacity: 10,333
-Current Use: Used as an office building.
-Interesting Facts: It was built temporarily for the Kings after moving from Kansas City and also known as Arco Arena I.

SALT PALACE

-NBA Team: Utah Jazz
-Opened: 1969

1979-1991
-Capacity: 12,000
-Current Use: Demolished in 1994, a convention center with the same name is at the site.
-Interesting Facts: Throughout the history of Salt Lake City, there have been several building with the name Salt Palace.

SILVERDOME

-NBA Team: Detroit Pistons
-Opened: 1975

1978-1988
-Capacity: up to 80,000 for football.
-Current Use: The Silverdome is currently closed and slated to be torn down or redeveloped.
-Interesting Facts: It was the site of the 1979 NBA All-Star Game and Super Bowl XVI in 1982.

SKYDOME

-NBA Team: Toronto Raptors
-Opened: 1989
-Years at Arena:
1995-1999
-Capacity: 37,000 (NBA)
-Current Use: Home of the Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) and the Toronto Argonauts (CFL).
-Interesting Facts: Now known as the Rogers Centre, it was the first stadium to have a retractable roof.

THE SPECTRUM

-NBA Team: Philadelphia 76ers
-Opened: 1967

1967-1996
-Capacity: 18,169
-Current Use: Currently the home of the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) and the Philadelphia Kixx (MISL).
