Alamodome to Kingdome - Madison Square Garden to the Spectrum

ALAMODOME

-NBA Team: San Antonio Spurs
-Opened: 1993
-Years at Arena:
1993-2002
-Capacity: 20,662 to 39,500 (NBA use)
-Current Use: Home of the annual Alamo Bowl college football game.
-Interesting Facts: Was the home of the New Orleans Saints (NFL) in 2005. Was built for future football team, has seating capacity of 65,000.

ARIZONA VETERANS MEMORIAL COLISEUM

-NBA Team: Phoenix Suns
-Opened: 1965
-Years at Arena:
1968-1992
-Capacity: 14,870
-Current Use: Used as site for concerts and other events for the Arizona State Fair each year.
-Interesting Facts: Has a saddle shaped, cable suspension roof. Has been the home to six sports franchises.

BOSTON GARDEN

-NBA Team: Boston Celtics
-Opened: 1928
-Years at Arena:
1946-1995
-Capacity: 14,890
-Current Use: Demolished in 1998.
-Interesting Facts: Known for its parquet floor that was moved to the TD Banknorth Garden. Built specifically for boxing, however used primarily for basketball and hockey. Many flaws including obstructed seats.

CAPITAL CENTRE

-NBA Team: Washington Bullets (Wizards)
-Opened: 1973
-Years at Arena:
1973-1997
-Capacity: 18,756
-Current Use: Demolished in 2002 and is now the site of The Boulevard at the Capital Centre, a shopping center.
-Interesting Facts: It was the first arena to have luxury boxes constructed and to have a video replay board on the main scoreboard.

CHARLOTTE COLISEUM

-NBA Team: Charlotte Hornets
-Opened: 1988
-Years at Arena:
1998-2002
-Capacity: 24,042
-Current Use: Demolished in June 2007 and mixed use development will be constructed.
-Interesting Facts: When it opened in 1988, it was the largest arena in the NBA. Hosted the 1991 NBA All Star Game.

CHICAGO STADIUM

-NBA Team: Chicago Bulls
-Opened: 1929
-Years at Arena:
1967-1994
-Capacity: 17,137
-Current Use: Demolished in 1995.
-Interesting Facts: Site of the first NFL playoff game in 1932, and the1973 and 1988 All-Star Games. Famous for its Barton organ.
 

COBO ARENA

-NBA Team: Detroit Pistons
-Opened: 1960
-Years at Arena:
1961-1978
-Capacity: 12,000
-Current Use: Renovated in 1989, it is used as a convention center in Detroit.
-Interesting Facts: Each year it is the home of the North American International Auto Show. The Pistons were the primary team at Cobo Arena.
 

COLISEUM AT RICHFIELD

-NBA Team: Cleveland Cavaliers
-Opened: 1974
-Years at Arena:
1974-1994
-Capacity: 20,273
-Current Use: Demolished in 1999, the site was returned to forestland.
-Interesting Facts: The arena was constructed half way between Cleveland and Akron because to draw more fans in Northeast Ohio.

FORD CENTER

-NBA Team: New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets
-Opened: 1999
-Years at Arena:
2005-2007
-Capacity: 19,599
-Current Use: Located in downtown Oklahoma City, it is the home to  CHL and af2 teams as well as concerts.
-Interesting Facts: It was the home of the New Orleans Hornets for two seasons after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005.

GENERAL MOTORS PLACE

-NBA Team: Vancouver Grizzlies
-Opened: 1995
-Years at Arena:
1995-2001
-Capacity: 19,193
-Current Use: Home of the Vancouver Canucks (NHL).
-Interesting Facts: It will host hockey during the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Grizzlies moved to Memphis after the 2001 season because of lack of support.

GREAT WESTERN FORUM

-NBA Team: Los Angeles Lakers
-Opened: 1967
-Years at Arena:
1967-1999
-Capacity: 17,505
-Current Use: Used for worship services by Faithful Central Bible Church.
-Interesting Facts: The Lakers won five NBA Championships here in the 1980s. It hosted two NBA All Star Games in 1972 and 1983 and was the home of the Los Angeles Kings (NHL).

HEMIS FAIR ARENA

-NBA Team: San Antonio Spurs
-Opened: 1968
-Years at Arena:
1973-93
-Capacity: 16,000
-Current Use: Demolished in 1995, the location is now the site of the Gonzalez Convention Center.
-Interesting Facts: Was known as one of the loudest arenas in the NBA.

LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL SPORTS ARENA

-NBA Team: Los Angeles Clippers/Lakers
-Opened: 1959
-Years at Arena:
1960-67 (Lakers), 1984-1999 (Clippers)
-Capacity: 16,161
-Current Use: Recently renovated, it is still used for a variety of events.
-Interesting Facts: It has been the home to the Lakers, Clippers (NBA), Kings (NHL) and the USC basketball team (NCAA)

KINGDOME

-NBA Team: Seattle Supersonics
-Opened: 1976
-Years at Arena:
1978-1985
-Capacity: Up to 66,000 for football
-Current Use: Demolished in 2000 it is now the site of Qwest Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks (NFL).
