BARCLAYS CENTER

Since 1957 when the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, the New York City borough of Brooklyn has been without a professional sports franchise. In in the future that will change when the New Jersey Nets move into the Barclays Center. To be constructed atop the Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, the Nets arena is being built as part of a $3.5 billion multiuse complex that includes an arena, businesses and residential areas. It will have a seating capacity of 18,000 for basketball and expandable for other events. Currently, the Nets play in the third oldest arena in the NBA, the Izod Center. When Bruce Ratner bought the club in 2004 he decided to move the team to Brooklyn. Barclays Bank of London bought the naming rights to the arena for $400 million over 20 years.
